OK, I have good news and bad news. The good news is that my bike ride to work is 4.9 km as I’d previously recorded in the Aotearoa bike challenge last year (i.e. the distance between home and work hasn’t changed duh). The reason my bike measured the distance now as 3.4 km was because I asked the guys at the bike shop a few months ago to stop it from slowing down when I got to 25 kph – it’s some German safety feature where they don’t want ebikes going too fast (yes, ironically, this is the country with no speed limit on the autobahn) – and the only way to do that was to trick the bike into thinking it was going slower. The bad news is that it took me so damn long to figure out that this was possibly going to affect the odometer.
