Can anyone explain to me why if dogs have such an exquisitely sensitive sense of smell, they insist on searching out and rolling in the most offensive things they can find on any beach walk you go on?
And what is particularly painful is the persistence of these powerful, putrid and pernicious pongs. Throwing the offending animal into the sea doesn’t help in the least but it makes me feel better.

Same dog, same beach, different day, different putrid dead animal carcass, same outcome: but this time, after I had vigorously rubbed her down and then flung her into the sea, I turned around to find an old couple looking disapprovingly at me. I felt rather a heel.
