Finally got around to seeing Bohemian Rhapsody last night. Terrific movie although rather sycophantic about the band. I do have a soft spot for astrophysicists so that’s OK by me. The actor who plays Freddy Mercury absolutely deserves an Oscar, although I believe his chances have taken a severe hit due to unsavoury behaviour by the director, Bryan Singer. I suspect it’s hard for younger people these days to grasp just how terrifically frightening AIDS was in those days. No one really understood it, but it struck down young healthy people, was incurable, and led to horrible slow agonizing deaths. This is back in the late 80’s and 90’s I’m talking about. Earlier in the 80’s we were more worried about getting nuked by Commies, and/or the Yanks.
