I’m trying to figure something out. When I’m on my bike commute, other cyclists sneer at me because I’m on a sit up, step through ebike; when I’m on my scooter, motorcyclists sneer at me because it’s a scooter, and it has three wheels (I remember our old head of department, Malcolm, telling me I had to park my old moped somewhere away from where all the proper motorbikes, like his one, were parked); when I’m in my Mitsubishi Outlander SUV, electric car drivers sneer at me because it’s a plug in hybrid with a back up petrol engine, petrolheads sneer at me because the engine is tiny, and proper off roaders sneer at me because it’s a Remuera tractor; and when I’m mountain biking, other bikers sneer at me not because of my bike (which is lovely, and worth every last one of the very many dollars I spent on it), but because I’m usually in a ditch. I think there’s a common theme here but I’m struggling to find it.
