How is it that the phrases “strike while the iron’s hot!” and “he who hesitates is lost!” can coexist in the same universe as “look before you leap”? I’m guessing it’s because the purpose of these sayings is to bring it out after the catastrophe, shake your grizzled head and say “if only you had listened to my advice!” (Which I conveniently haven’t mentioned until now).
