Au revoir, Montpellier

Just starting my six hour train journey to Brussels. It’s a TGV so it must be a long way to Belgium. I’m travelling in a backwards facing seat which is making me feel a bit sick but I have been told that it greatly reduces my chances of decapitation or other horrendous injury in the event of a crash so on balance I won’t complain. It was a sprint to the finish in my time in Montpellier yesterday. I got an awake craniotomy in the morning, making a total of four; and then two more thrombectomies in the afternoon to make a total of eight. The latter is a  bit of disappointment but at least I’ve got a good feel for how the system works. Anyway, everyone was very nice to me, and I would highly recommend Montpellier as a place to come on your sabbatical. It’s also apparently a world leader in laryngeal surgery if that floats your boat. Not to mention, excellent French practice!

In the evening I went to my supervisor’s house for my final multiple course gourmet family dinner. Is that four or five? I can’t remember. They’ve been embarrassingly nice to me. I’ve never been that nice to anyone in my life. Must try harder.

Apparently the most famous thing about Brussels is a tiny statue of a small boy pissing. Sounds like the little mermaid all over again. However, they also have very excellent chocolate, so it could be worse.
