AKA Everest base camp – Shmeverest base camp, or in the words of the immortal Sir Edmund: “that was more work than I was expecting!” (I may be paraphrasing).
Completely misled by the one boot rating of six today for our loop walk to the abbey of Saint Martin du Canigou. Should the positive accumulated height gain (and descent) of 600m have warned us? Maybe some knowledge of this tramping business could have been helpful in retrospect.
The abbey itself, once we finally got to it, was very impressive, clinging to the mountain side. The priest/monk/penitent/man in a brown dress who talked to us in the shop was very friendly and chatty after he spotted my Queenstown cap. We declined his offer to visit the abbey but we did buy a very nice tshirt and some lovely placemats.

Was seriously impressed by photo of you scaling the seemingly vertical rock face at (possibly) great height …..until I zoomed in and noticed your high fashion sandals!!! Trick photography (of verticalness not shoes!)??
Teva sandals! Hardly high fashion – but certainly a mistake, especially once it started raining! Sturdier footwear today.
