I’ve been reading a book by an Intensivist on end of life planning. The first few chapters were about how aging affects the body and were very depressing (spoiler: it’s all downhill after 20), but the latest hot topic is frailty. Apparently how fast people walk is a good predictor of morbidity and mortality. It’s inspired me to keep up my post graduate walking speed, that’s for sure. Although actually, having spent much of the last 24 hours in airports, I’m wondering if the increased mortality for slow walkers is due to pedestrian road rage (get out of my way, you slug, or I will be forced to kill you).
