Water water everywhere

Terrible surface flooding here after even the mildest downpour. Were they not expecting it to rain when planning their drainage? Triumph of hope over experience in my book. Discovered on one of our London walks that sewer literally means “seawards”, which is nasty but honest I suppose. When Britain joined the EU the fussy bureaucrats in Brussels made London process its sewerage before pumping it out into the sea. Our guide was surmising that after Brexit they may go back to sending raw sewerage floating over the channel. I think he was joking.
